Also, a big shout out to Castelli Framing in Culver City. They were able to frame the huge print of "3 Girls" I gave to my amazing sister-in-law and her husband for their wedding present, with a really tight turn-around. Big thanks to Fred and all the nice folks @ Castelli. If you are in need of quality art framing in Los Angeles you've got to give them a call at 310-204-6830 and be sure to tell them Tansy sent you :)

new sketchbook

i finally got a new sketchbook, and one of my kitties christened it by puking on the first page. awesome. i go back and forth with drawing and painting, sometimes the computer just sucks me in, other times i run away from art like it's a ghost - if i don't look back then it was never really there....

'Anne Boleyn' for Textbook History show @ Compound Gallery

acrylic on wood panel, 9x12

I was inspired to paint a portrait of Anne Boleyn (from beyond the grave) after reading Vercors' novel in her name. The book may be seen as an idealized portrayal of this villified woman in history, and that's exactly why I wanted to paint her. No matter what you believe about Anne Boleyn, she was a strong woman, a rebel with convictions - and history (written and manipulated by men) rarely looks kindly on that combination.

The 'Textbook History' show @ Compound Gallery in Portland, Oregon opens Thursday, September 3 @ 7pm and runs till September 27.

sketches: osprey-girl, princess seashell & the cape

i sat and sketched while this huge osprey perched high atop the scrub pines...

cape cod is such a beautiful and inspiring place. we visited a native american burial ground overlooking a pond filled with ducks and swans. many people have left offerings on an old tree stump, we left drawings. princess seashell is now fluttering atop the altar there, weighed down with a seashell. this is a 2nd version i did so i wouldn't forget.
i also literally hugged a tree.

Big thanks to Nicole Dominguez for doing such a wonderful job putting on a lovely show. We then drove through the night and arrived back in Cape Cod for the sunrise! Amazing....
